The Waldron Story...Continued

_edited.jpg)

The Waldron Story or Conn’s Creek Reflections was written and published as part of the bicentennial celebration by the WHS Senior Composition Class of 1976 and edited by their teacher, Kenneth D. Sever. There exists an endless plethora of memories, anecdotes, stories, and events that you, someone who is connected in some way to the Waldron community, have tucked away in your “memory bank”. We have begun a process for collecting these nuggets of information and plan to publish them in some manner, either electronically, hard print, or both.

Roger Laird
Class of 1975

Ralph Lux
Class of 2007
A 1975 graduate of Waldron High School, Roger Laird exemplified lifelong dedication to his family, faith,
and community. As a student, Roger was active in basketball, baseball, and the school’s show group,
demonstrating both talent and school spirit. He later attended Indiana Business College and built a
diverse professional career, holding various positions at Merchants National Bank, Indiana Cash Drawer,
and CGS Services.
Roger was deeply committed to the Waldron community. He faithfully served for over five decades as a
member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. His civic leadership included service as Shelby County
Commissioner, Shelby County Republican Party Chairman, and Chairman of Indiana’s 6th District.
Roger’s greatest impact, however, was felt in the lives he touched—especially through his involvement
in the Waldron Lady Mohawk Basketball Program. For many years, he served as assistant coach,
statistician, and most importantly, a trusted mentor. His presence on the sidelines and in the locker
room extended far beyond the game. He was known for designing thoughtful conditioning programs,
encouraging athletes during their toughest days, and staying in touch long after graduation.
Above all, Roger was a devoted husband, proud father, and loving grandfather. His legacy of service,
integrity, and hometown pride will continue to inspire future generations of Waldron students.
Ralph Lux embodied the very qualities that the Waldron Wall of Honor seeks to recognize. His life
demonstrates how determination and a positive attitude can lead to a life of meaning, purpose, and a
significant contribution to one’s community.
Ralph was awarded an honorary diploma from Waldron High School in 2007, participated in Special
Olympics for several years, and worked full time at Shares, Inc. for 39 years before retiring in 2018.
Ralph led by example and maintained an infectious cheerfulness and determination that inspired others.
He displayed exceptional perseverance and an unconditional love for others. As the manager of the
Waldron boys basketball team for 34 years, Ralph was also the team’s biggest cheerleader and fan.
Ralph was known to write down a play for the coach each game; and if the night resulted in a win, Ralph
was sure that his play was the reason for the victory.
Ralph has touched many lives and was the heart and soul of the Waldron basketball program. His impact
on the court and in our community will live on for years to come.

There exists an endless plethora of memories, anecdotes, stories, and events that you, someone who is connected in some way to the Waldron community, have tucked away in your “memory bank”. We have begun a process for collecting these nuggets of information and plan to publish them in some manner, either electronically, hard print, or both.
The intent for this project is to be an extension of the history of the Waldron Community initiated through The Waldron Story...Conns Creek Reflections. Our aim is to focus on the events, activities, and people, who impacted our lives and embed history into our stories. Perhaps the question, “where are you now because of Waldron” might serve as the impetus to stimulate our thinking.
Once you’ve captured your stories, share them with us. Use email, snail mail, social media, or any means with which you are comfortable communicating with one of the members of the committee HERE. We look forward to hearing from you.
